New Requests for Proposal to be issued in the new year:

  1. Develop and implement HR Management Practice Roundtables for the non-profit sector
  2. Develop a Workforce Portal including HR resources and tools for the non-profit sector
  3. Develop and implement a community partnership model to develop HR practices for Aboriginal employees working in non-Aboriginal social service organizations
  4. Develop and implement a community partnership model to develop HR practice in diverse populations such as immigrants and persons with disabilities.

 

Request for Qualifications Issued:  External Evaluation Consultant
The Non-Profit Sector Employers’ Council is currently planning numerous projects to improve the human resource and workforce capacity of the non-profit sector over the next two years.  The Employers’ Council is interested in engaging an evaluation consultant for each funded project to ensure ongoing strategic alignment and impact of projects.  RFQ deadline is March 9, 2012.  Read the RFQ

The Non-Profit Sector Employers' Council Gets Underway!

The Non-profit Sector Employers’ Council held their first meeting on July 7. The role of the Employers’ Council is to build the capacity of all non-profit employers to work together to achieve significant growth and development of the sector’s workforce. The ultimate goal is for the Employers’ Council to become BC’s non-profit labour market sectoral council within five years.

 

Pilot Shared HR Services Model for Rural Non-Profits
The South Okanagan Similkameen Volunteer Centre is conducting a pilot project to test the Shared HR services model proposed in the United Way of Northern BC Feasibility Study conducted last year (see Recent Projects section for a summary). This pilot will provide support to small rural organizations to allow personnel to acquire the skills needed to improve HR management practices required of the organization. Target completion date: December 2011

 

Recent Projects

Indigenous HR Summit
The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres held an Indigenous HR Summit in November 2010 to explore the unique issues and opportunities facing the Aboriginal non-profit labour market and to begin identifying community-based approaches to address the issues.

Feasibility of Shared HR Services in Northern Non-Profits
This study explored the feasibility of shared services for three clusters of non-profit organizations: non-profits serving a large rural geographic area, non-profits operating in a rural community, and aboriginal non-profit organizations. The resulting report recommends two approaches for shared HR services in disbursed rural and northern non-profit organizations.

Feasibility of Shared HR Services in Medium and Large-Sized Urban Organizations
This study explored the feasibility of shared services for 14 Lower Mainland social service organizations.  The resulting Shared HR Services Feasibility Study Template can be used by organizations to evaluate the feasibility of a shared approach.

LMP Sustainability Plan
The LMP will be funding multiple projects aimed at strengthening the foundation for human resource capacities in the non-profit sector. We realize that these projects will require ongoing support and development to maximize their impact. The Sustainability Plan identifies how to approach this stewardship in a coordinated, collective and successful way.

Human Resources Strategic Plan
The HR Strategic Plan provides a snapshot of the issues the non-profit labour market in BC is tackling. It includes 12 areas of action that will be developed into new tools and resources — all with the goal to make human resource management in the sector better.
