Board changes at Vancouver Foundation

April 22, 2010 -- Vancouver Foundation today announced three changes to its Board of Directors.

After more than nine years of service, Donald Brenner is stepping down as Vice-Chair. Brenner is the former Chief Justice of the BC Supreme Court (the Chief Justice, by statute, automatically becomes a member of the Vancouver Foundation Board of Directors).

Brenner retired from the bench in September of 2009, and is now stepping down from the Foundation’s Board. He will be replaced by Chief Justice Robert Bauman, who was appointed to BC’s Supreme Court on September 10, 2009.

“We very much look forward to working with Chief Justice Bauman, however Don Brenner will be missed,” says Jake Kerr, Board Chair. “Despite a hectic schedule as a chief justice, Don gave an enormous amount of energy and wise counsel to the Foundation. He served on many of our granting committees, and had a personal commitment to our work. We thank Don for his generous service to B.C. communities.”

John McLernon will assume the role of Vice-Chair. McLernon is Honourary Chairman and Co-Founder of the Colliers Macaulay Nicolls Group of Companies. McLernon will continue his work with youth homelessness as Chair of the Streetohome Foundation.

With more than 1,200 funds, and assets of $720 million, Vancouver Foundation is Canada’s largest community foundation. Since it was founded in 1943, Vancouver Foundation, in partnership with its donors, has distributed more than $786 million to BC charities.
