Community Arts Council of Vancouver
Since 1946, the Community Arts Council of Vancouver (CACV) has been a powerful force in the establishment of Vancouver’s cultural institutions and artistic endeavours, including the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Vancouver Opera, City Opera, Vancouver Playhouse, Robson Square, UBC School of Music, Vancouver International Film Festival, Museum of Vancouver, Heritage Vancouver, Building Community Society, and Bard on the Beach. CACV focuses on personal and community development through the arts with individual artists, groups, and neighbourhoods throughout Vancouver.
Community Arts Fund Program
As a highly accessible means for people with limited resources, the Community Arts Fund Program aims to enrich people’s lives through involvement with community arts and to expand their knowledge, skills and talents. Community arts nourish the needs of the spirit for identity, belonging and purpose. The Woodward's Mural Project, Strathcona Music in the Park, DTES Heart of the City Festival and the 2010 Artist in the Street Program represent what can be achieved with very modest means.
The Community Arts Fund Program was launched in 2012. Each spring, a panel of community leaders evaluates applications from community organizations with activities in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside with the aim of supporting arts projects committed to community-led renewal. Successful applicants receive financial and administrative support.
