Amy Dundas Head Memorial Fund
The Amy Dundas Head Memorial Fund was established by Amy’s family as a way to remember an outstanding wife, daughter, musician and equestrian. On June 12, 2003, Amy was tragically killed in a stable accident, at the age of 30.
In honour of Amy’s achievements, this fund provides an annual bursary or scholarship award to young musicians of the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra (VYSO) to develop their talent and training.
Amy was an accomplished violinist. She joined the YVSO at 12 years old and at 16 she was the winner of the senior orchestra concerto competition, going on to perform the Bruch Violin Concerto with the orchestra, on her 17th birthday.
Amy is remembered for her sparkling cheerfulness, passionate inspiration, dedication to hard work, honesty & integrity, willingness to help others, and as role model for her students.
Amy was also a talented equestrian, winning in all the English disciplines but later focussing on show jumping and enjoying success in the International ring at Spruce Meadows. Amy chose the horses as her career, and she travelled extensively, but always with her violin in the horse trailer.
Her talent and success was recognized throughout Western Canada.
Amy is remembered for her sparkling cheerfulness, passionate inspiration, dedication to hard work, honesty & integrity, willingness to help others, and as role model for her students. In addition to her many achievements in the world of show jumping, Amy was nominated for the Vancouver YWCA Women of Distinction Award.
The VYSO was selected as the beneficiary of this fund due to the recognition in the importance of music in society, and its importance in fostering music appreciation and performance in the growth and development of young people. The VYSO has a long standing record of providing the organization and structure for young people in BC to learn and participate in orchestral performance at the highest level.
Each year, funding for a bursary or scholarship award is allocated to VYSO. The VYSO selects the recipient of the award from the senior orchestra - a member who best displays the qualities and leadership shown by Amy.
We would like to sincerely thank you for your contribution to the Amy Dundas Head Memorial Fund and for your support in enriching the lives of young musicians.
