Outward Bound Canada

"There is more in you than you think". This simple idea forms the basis of Outward Bound Canada's (OBC) philosophy and provides the guiding principle for all Outward Bound experiences. Each OBC course is much more than just learning the technical skills of canoeing, rock climbing, kayaking, backpacking and dogsledding. It's designed to be an incredible and indelible journey of self-discovery.

Outward Bound’s goal is to create a supportive community, which recognizes and values every student. The objective of the program is to build a strong sense of self and community through active and authentic experiences that foster academics, a celebration of diversity, and personal growth using an integrated adventure-oriented delivery. OBC’s belief is that the development of self-esteem and self-confidence in students is paramount to a successful learning experience. These programs encourage students to live, work and learn co-operatively, and to value each other's strengths and differences. OBC provides students with tremendous opportunities and support to challenge themselves and to succeed.

Outward Bound Canada’s National Scholarship & Bursary Program

Outward Bound Canada’s Youth Scholarship & Bursary Program is supported by a variety of individuals, corporations and foundations making it possible for youth who come from less advantaged socio-economic and/or cultural backgrounds to participate in our expeditions. The goal of the program is to bring young students from different cultural backgrounds and lived experiences together on extended wilderness based expeditions and to encourage these students to learn more about themselves, about each other and to further develop their leadership capacity. Outward Bound believes that investing in the development of youth leaders will, in the long run, benefit all our communities.

The Outward Bound Canada Perpetual Endowment Fund was established in 1973 and provides steady income and enables Ourtward Bound Canada to advance their mission over the long-term. Each year, bursaries are awarded to youth and ensure that those who have the potential to benefit most from an Outward Bound experience continue to have that opportunity available to them.  In years where donations are down or government funding is reduced, income from the endowment fund will still arrive. Click the link below to make your donation and help Outward Bound Canada ensure its critical work will continue long into the future. If you would like to make the Outward Bound Canada Perpetual Endowment Fund part of your legacy, please contact Outward Bound Canada at info@outwardbound.ca.

"Aside from the physical skills and things I learned, I also grew as a person.  Before I went on the course, I always doubted myself and the decisions I made. I would worry about things I couldn't control and would think that I never had anything interesting or important to say. I also wasn't very open to new people and making friends but this course showed me that I  was able to do all the things I previously believed I couldn't."
