July 13, 2009 — Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, Vancouver Foundation is offering dollar for dollar matches on donations of $1,000 or more to its Community Impact Fund.

“This the first time we’ve been able to offer this type of incentive to donors,” says Faye Wightman, Vancouver Foundation CEO. “We have a $150,000 donation that could turn into $300,000 for our Community Impact Fund.” The Fund supports current and emerging community needs, and grants to some of the province’s most innovative, community-based initiatives.

“We take the broadest view of what a community is and what it needs to succeed,” adds Wightman. “That’s why the Community Impact Fund supports a broad range of issues — everything from arts and culture and environment, to children’s issues, homelessness, education and more.”

As one of the largest funders of charities in BC, Vancouver Foundation distributed $60 million in 2008 to non-profit organizations. More than $7 million of this came from the Community Impact Fund.

“What makes the Community Impact Fund effective is the 150 expert volunteers that help us carefully review all applications for grants,” says Wightman. “With their knowledge we know that donations to this fund are being used in a way that builds strong and resilient communities.”

Criteria for Vancouver Foundation’s matching program

The matching program will continue on a first-come, first-serve basis until the pool of $150,000 is exhausted or until December 31, 2009 (whichever comes first)

Donations of $1,000 to $10,000 will be matched dollar for dollar

Only gifts to the Community Impact Fund or its secondary funds for different areas (environment, education, arts and culture, etc.) will be matched.
