Vancouver Foundation's Neighbourhood Small Grants program wants your great ideas for 2014
March 3, 2014 - Vancouver Foundation today announced that its popular Neighbourhood Small Grants program (NSG) is open for 2014 applications to help make metro Vancouver neighbourhoods even better places to live by helping residents connect with their neighbours. The program also unveiled a brand new website where residents can apply online for a Neighbourhood Small Grant (vancouverfoundation.ca/nsg). The deadline for applications is April 7, 2014.
The NSG program is designed to bring people closer together and help neighbours to connect and engage in their community. Small grants ranging from $50 to $1,000 are provided to support resident-led community projects, funded by Vancouver Foundation. The grants are administered through our program partner organizations and resident advisory committee members — local community volunteers.
Since launching the program in 1999, in one neighbourhood — the Downtown Eastside — NSG has seen exponential growth. Programs are now offered in 16 communities across metro Vancouver. During that time, Vancouver Foundation has supported hundreds of local projects such as community gardens, canning workshops, street parties, movie nights, origami lessons, book exchanges, and a workshop on deaf culture, among others.
Last year, the NSG program provided funding of more than $408,000 to support 848 projects that helped build bonds between neighbours.
Vancouver Foundation President and CEO Kevin McCort says, “For a very small amount of money – often only a few dollars - these small projects help bring people together. We take great pride in helping create a sense of community, where before, there may have been none. We hope to expand the Neighbourhood Small Grants program into four more communities this year.”
