Barry is the Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy and Information Officer of Pacific Blue Cross (PBC). In his current role, Barry is accountable for the strategy and planning (business and technology), analytics, merger, acquisition and integration, enterprise governance (including the Project Management Office) and information system operations. PBC provides health benefit coverage to over 1.6 million British Columbians.
Prior to PBC, Barry was the Chief Information Officer of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), Vancouver Coastal Health and Providence Health Care. He was responsible for overall technology strategy and leadership for solutions that enabled 1.5 M patient visits per year and provide productivity tools for over 45,000 employees. Before entering the public service, Barry worked for TELUS Corporation. Barry joined TELUS in 2004 as Vice President, Public Sector West in April 2004 and became Vice President, Health Care in 2005. From 2005 to 2008, Barry led the expansion of TELUS into the healthcare IT industry in Canada which included the $763M acquisition of Emergis in January 2008 and the subsequent creation of TELUS Health.
Prior to joining TELUS, Barry was a Vice President of Cap Gemini in Vancouver and a partner with Ernst & Young in Toronto where he was appointed, in 1999, one of the youngest partners in the Canadian firm's history.
Barry is a Board Director of the Royal Canadian Mint and a Member of the Information Technology Advisory Council of the University of British Columbia. He is a past Board Director of the Vancouver Foundation and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. In 2019, Barry was chosen as Business in Vancouver’s Chief Information Officer of the Year.
Barry hold a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from York University and a MBA from the Schulich School of Business.
