Grant Program Updates

Keep an eye on this page for updates on our granting as we embark on the journey to shift and share power across our organization.
Update: Sept. 13, 2021

Granting will relaunch in early 2022.

We’re currently designing what the granting will look like including focus, eligibility criteria, and application process. We will continue to support work that seeks to address the root causes of complex issues, though our funding may look different than our past granting programs. We’ll also be exploring ways to incorporate principles and practices that will help to offer more equitable and accessible funding.

Update from April 13, 2021

We know many of you are likely planning your funding sources for the year. To help you with this, we want to share that our grantmaking will look a bit different in 2021 as we continue our work to explore ways to shift and share power across the organization.

Why are we making changes?

We remain committed to our role as a funder regardless of the outcome of this work. We have been called on by community to shift and share power in our grantmaking. We believe we have a responsibility and an opportunity to explore what we fund and how we grant in ways that are truly in service to this. We want to move towards trust-based philanthropy and even greater participatory decision-making, challenge the traditional power dynamics of philanthropy, and prioritize relationships over transactional work, while ensuring community foundations remain welcoming to everyone. By 2022, we will have a clearer vision for what our grantmaking will look like and are committed to providing you with regular updates as this work unfolds. To learn more, click here.

What's changing this year?

How much we grant out to community will not change but how we do it this year will be different. We will be offering fewer granting cycles and finalize granting decisions as early as possible. In other words, the same amount of granting budget as previous years will be available but across fewer cycles so that each cycle will be supporting more projects than ever before. This approach will help us create more space to engage with partners and community on reimagining our programs and initiatives that better align with our emerging purpose.

All grant cycles for 2021 are listed in the schedule below – calls for applications for many of these cycles were held in late 2020. There are no additional granting cycles currently planned in 2021 but please check back on our website or sign up for general granting updates. Any existing grants with Vancouver Foundation will not be affected.

We know that change is hard, especially in these precarious times and so we are here to chat through any questions, comments, or concerns about any specific grant program. You can contact the appropriate team by visiting our staff directory
